If you have read my review Ms. Fantasky’s first novel, you will know that I wasn’t too enamored of it. In comparison, Jekel Loves Hyde is better written and the novel displays a better control over the plot and its permutations as it wounds towards a climax. Don’t get me wrong, I liked it. It was an interesting – might I say, refreshing – idea and the premise was promising. However, (yes, I’m sorry, there is one) the synopsis led me to believe in something else entirely. I was looking forward to more of Jekel goes bad than I was given. The synopsis led me to believe that the book largely focuses on Jill’s troubling alter ego while this could not have been further from the truth. It did have some chapters which dealt with this but the majority of the focus was on Tristan. It still was a well written book, entertaining. It just didn’t give me the thrill in my toes, the tingle in my fingertips that would make it stand out from the other books I have read. For me, it lacked depth.
