Though she’s an ordinary human, Celia uses street smarts and charmed weapons to protect the rich and famous from mortal and supernatural threats. She’s landed a plum job, protecting the Prince of a small but politically vital nation while he tours Los Angeles’s least savory hot spots. What should be a routine assignment goes badly wrong. Attacked by a master vampire, Celia knows she is about to die. She’s startled to awaken on a cold metal table in a university lab. Celia Graves has become an Abomination, neither fully mortal nor fully vampire. Her “master” is hunting her, to destroy her or finish what his bite began. She’s accused of murder and the cops aren’t sure whether she should be locked up or staked. And then there’s the demon she glimpsed during the vampire attack . . . .Struggling to cope with her new powers and trying not to terrify everyone she meets with a flash of fang, Celia reaches out for help from her once (and future?) lover, who is a powerful mage; his warrior-priest brother; a handsome werewolf who keeps his lupine nature concealed from the world; an elderly clairvoyant, and one trustworthy cop.Celia Graves has three days to save the world, her sanity, and her soul.Review:I was looking forward to this book. The cover looks great, the synopsis sounds awesome and it’s urban fantasy. Right up my alley. The first few pages made it difficult to get into the book but when things started happening, they happened. The pacing was fast – perhaps way too fast. I couldn’t really connect with the protagonist, not when she was human and not when she became an “Abomination.” Honestly, you’d think the authors would have come up with something better. The fact that she accepted her condition so very easily did not sit well with me. And then there are the various males she is interested in or who get her…well, you know. Not that anything happens. It’s just like one giant tease, heh. Her family, the plot – there was something so very contrived about this. There was barely a plot. I know it’s a premise to a series but come on now, if you want people to read the second book, you must deliver in the first one. And there are some really cheesy lines in the book, some cliched situations that will have you rolling your eyes. Also, I think the authors miscalculated – instead of focusing on Celia’s life as as “Abomination” (I will forever snerk at that), they have her grandmother confess (in a very cringe worthy scene) that she’s a siren. That was extraneous and way not needed. As a whole, I wasn’t really pleased with this book. (In case my review didn’t make that clear.)
