Bibliophilic Monologues

Divergent (Divergent Series #1)

Divergent - Veronica Roth So from all the hype surrounding this series, from all the praise lavished on it to the laudatory passages written about it, my expectations were high. Way high. And it didn't deliver. I don't understand why people are comparing this to The Hunger Games. THG was raw, gritty and real. This wasn't. It tried hard to be but it didn't engage the reader in the same manner or evoke the same visceral response. I'm probably in the minority but I didn't really think it was that big a deal. I didn't even like Tris most of the time. And all those deaths? They became gratuitous. And her reactions to the deaths? Even more unbelievable. When you lose people that close to you, you become a slave to grief. Just... I was expecting much better.
