Bibliophilic Monologues

and Falling, Fly

and Falling, Fly - Skyler White I am completely awed by the crispness of the writing. If say the writing was a dancer, then her lines would be clean and sharp. Succinct. Beautiful. And the subjects grappled with in the book are far different from the usual ones explored in books of the same genre. Pretty heavy stuff for an urban fantasy novel I picked up because it looked interesting. That said, I didn't find the plot as compelling as the writing. Fallen angel, the Rebord - very original characters and species and there could have been so much more done with these characters. I feel as though by promulgating the conflicts so excessively, the writer created a well-known narrative path that left the characters with no choice but to traverse it. I think the most interesting character of them all was Gaehod (obviously alluding to God) and he wasn't explored as much as I had wished him to be. And what was Alyx's "curse?" What was his particular story? These questions kept me wondering. And oh yes, do not trust the synopsis. The book reads nothing like it promises.
