I am really ambivalent about the series. Never mind the fact that I only read the first one - I still feel as though I am not entirely sure whether I want to continue with it. I think my main problem is with the characters. I usually really like them or hate them. Maudlin (and middling) feelings for the protagonists means I drag my feet at reading the story. In this instance, I don't like Rose most of the times. She's certainly not the Miss Goody Two Shoes as most of her contemporaries in the genre. At the same time, however, she is not a total badass. She is just...not interesting. She's a normal kid with normal moral gray areas living a not so normal life. I wish the main character had been Lissa. She seems interesting. Way more interesting than Rose.
