Bibliophilic Monologues

The Dark Divine

The Dark Divine - Bree Despain Okay, before I say anything else (and because I’m mentally 12), let me confess that the first time I saw the author’s name, I scrunched up my face because I read it as “Breeds Pain.” Yes, I told you my maturity level is stunning. Now moving on to the actual reason I’m here, which is to review this novel – and well, I don’t know, you guys. I’ve read several glowing reviews about this novel and while I don’t disagree with certain aspects of what the reviewers have said, there is a part of me that remains unaffected by this story. I don’t understand what it contains within its pages that sets it apart from all the others book. Okay fine, it is well written. But then, there are many other well written books. The werewolf mythology isn’t really delved into in any great detail. There is no real complexity, no sense of intricate legends woven into the story to make it more believable – to give it more depth. So while I liked the story on a superficial level, while I was entertained by it, I wasn’t blown away. It’s a personal choice and reflects probably more on my taste than on the writing or the book. But I don’t think I’ll be picking up the next book in the series.
